The Stop of Gluten Free Product Prescribing

As of August 1st 2025 we are no longer able to prescribe any gluten free products. This is Lincolnshire wide and a decision made by the Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) following a public and professional consultation period.

The rationale:

• Gluten free products are now widely available from local shops, online and supermarkets and the price gap between gluten free and off shelf products has dramatically reduced.
• There is a higher cost rate to prescribing gluten free items than to buy direct.
• Many individuals are managing a gluten free lifestyle independently.
• “It is possible to eat a gluten free diet that follows the Eatwell Guide model for balanced eating without the need for any specialist dietary foods” LICB statement.
